Trauma Therapy, EMDR, Couples Therapy & Child Therapy in Arroyo Grande

You don’t want to feel this way anymore— but you don’t know what will actually change it.

Katie Zimmermann

Something keeps repeating – and no matter how hard you try, it’s not actually getting better.

We help you understand what’s underneath it, and work with you to shift it.

We provide therapy services throughout Arroyo Grande and San Luis Obispo County for individuals, couples, children, and families struggling with trauma, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, relationship stress, and long-standing patterns that no longer feel sustainable.

Not sure where to start? We’ll help you figure it out.

Therapy here feels different

Many people come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure where to begin. You may have tried therapy before and felt unheard, unsupported, or unsure how real change actually happens.

Our approach is active, thoughtful, and deeply attuned. We don’t just listen — we help you understand what’s happening beneath the surface, make sense of long-standing patterns, and move toward meaningful change in a way that feels steady and supportive.

Our trauma-informed therapy approach incorporates EMDR therapy, attachment-focused therapy, couples therapy, child therapy, and nervous system-informed care for clients throughout the Central Coast of California.

You don’t have to hold everything together here.

Hi, I’m Katie.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist & Founder of New Beginnings

I know this can be a tough process (trying to figure out whether you can actually trust a complete stranger enough to open up). Myself and my team are naturally most comfortable in trusting, open, SUPER-honest, non-judgmental relationships where we are safe to be completely ourselves with each other.

We don’t take ourselves too seriously here, but we always take helping you feel better seriously.

At New Beginnings we specialize in trauma therapy, including EMDR therapy for adults and kids, as well as couples therapy, family therapy, grief work, somatic therapy, attachment-focused therapy, and support for anxiety, depression, life transitions, first responders, and pregnancy and postpartum concerns throughout Arroyo Grande and San Luis Obispo County.

“We were surprised to find child EMDR available in our county. It felt like finally having access to the right kind of support for our child.”

Grounded, compassionate, and effective care

Our work is rooted in trauma science, attachment theory, and nervous system regulation. Therapy is paced carefully and collaboratively, helping you feel supported rather than overwhelmed.

We focus on understanding why patterns exist and how to shift them gently and effectively — so change feels possible, not forced.
